Clinton Wins Two Out Of Three

Clinton Traveled out to a rainy Amsterdam this past Monday for a 12-1 to start off their three game week, later to play Proctor Thursday, and General Brown Saturday April 5th.

Clinton took a quick lead in Amsterdam when Captain Tyler Roselle’s first goal trickled in barely three minutes into the first quarter. This lead was secured when, with seven minutes left in the first segment of play, Roselli put in his second goal. This trend continued when Ben Rogers scored Clinton’s third goal and the quarter was finished after Roselli put in yet another goal leaving the score 4-0 Clinton heading into the second quarter. The second quarter saw much of the same thing and with goals from Pat Arancio, L.J. Combs, Rogers, Roselli, and two from Chris Dosch Clinton was ahead 10-0 at half. However the second half seemed to be much slower for Clinton with only two goals one from Roselli and one from Dosch, Also Amsterdam managed to get in a few shots on goalie Sam Hecklau one of which went in. Clinton used the second half and their ten goal cushion to work on plays and get in all their players, the final score 12-1 Clinton.

The team’s second game of the week was to be played at Proctor High School on April 3rd. Clinton players thought going into the game that they would come out with an easy win having faced Proctor once before in a scrimmage and winning 15-3. It was soon proven that they were not wrong with a familiar halftime score of 10-0 Clinton. Clinton kept scoring goals but unfortunately goal tenders Sam Hecklau, and Matt Harris missed out on their shut-out when Proctor scored a goal in the midst of the final quarter. The games final score was 15-1 with goals and assists from: Ben Rogers 3G, 2A; Tyler Roselli 4G, 3A; Blaine Stottlar 5G; L.J. Combs 1G 2A; Dwight Vicks 1G; Dan Silfer 1G; Jake Dickinson 1A; Chris Dosch 3A; Pat Arancio 1A;and R.J. Szuba 1A.

General Brown proved to be Clinton’s most exciting game of the season so far, both because of the unique playing and mainly because of the fierce competition finally giving Clinton a chance to prove themselves. After having arrived at General Brown a bit before twelve Clinton realized that the condition of the field was nothing to behold. In fact the conditions were terrible; there were actually several assorted puddles throughout the field and on more than one occasion a player would come up with a stick full of mud when trying to scoop the ball. General Brown took a quick lead scarcely a minute into the game, 1-0. This was quickly answered when Pat Arancio scored Clinton’s first goal, and at the end of the first quarter this was still Clinton’s only goal but General Brown managed three more. This left the score at 4-1 Brown, but Clinton was not giving up at one point in the second quarter they had narrowed the gap to 4-3 by half however it was 5-3, General Brown having put one in at the end of the half. The third quarter became by far the closest and most intense, and by its end the score had reached 9-9. It was too bad that the final quarter didn’t see any progression on Clinton’s part; however General Brown did put in four more goals leaving a final score of 13-9 and giving Clinton their second loss of the year. Goals and assists against General Brown were from: L.J. Combs 1G 1A; Pat Arancio 1G, 1A; Ben Rogers 1G, 2A; Blaine Stottlar 2G; Chris Dosch 4G; and Tyler Roselli 2A.

R.J. Szuba - April 27, 2008

This past Tuesday, April 22, Clinton’s Varsity Lacrosse team traveled to Hamilton for a close game. The game started with a 3-3 first quarter that marked the trend for the rest of the game. Clinton began to pull ahead in the second quarter which was shown by the halftime score of 5-6. The third quarter was evenly matched and both teams scored three goals still leaving CCS ahead by one. In the forth quarter Clinton kept putting goals in but Hamilton couldn’t keep up offensively, and with a final score of 8-13 Clinton added another win to their record.

On April 25th Clinton took a long drive out to Indian River only to be crushed on the scoreboard CCS 6, Indian River 16. It seemed at the beginning of the game the team had shaken off the effects of the two hour bus drive when Ben Rogers put in a quick first of the game goal. This would sadly be the only goal Clinton would score until half, and with a half time score of 1-7 CCS still thought they could take back the game. The third quarter proved to be marginally better with a score of 6- 13 at its end. It seemed that Clinton was adjusting to Indian Rivers aggressive defense and fast offense, and it just might have been possible for a comeback. However, Clinton couldn’t make it happen their sixth goal being their last leaving the final score at 6-16.

The next day after this disappointing defeat Clinton was ready for their first home game against a strong Syracuse team, Bishop Ludden a game that was sure to be a challenge. The game started with CCS proving that they could compete jumping out to a 2-0 lead causing a concerned Bishop Ludden coach to call an early time out. Ludden adjusted and dominated the first half with the halftime score of 3-8. Clinton adjusted well at half time and tied the third quarter with each team scoring one goal However a strong Ludden team continued to control the game and ended up winning with a final score of 6-14.

Clinton 3-4 travels back to Syracuse on Tuesday to meet Manlius Pebble Hill, travels to Johnstown on Thursday and then returns home to meet Proctor at 4:00 on the Stadium field at the high school.

Clinton Wins Three Out Of Four

On Monday May fifth CCS played their first game of the week in Rome hoping to bring home a win, something that a Clinton varsity Lacrosse team has never done against Rome. The hopes of breaking this tradition seemed to be dashed after Clinton's worst ever first half of the season, even with a 9-0 halftime score the team still thought they could at least tighten the gap.

The next twenty four minutes of play saw the most glorious, yet not triumphant, comeback so far this season. With a final score of 11-9 Rome, Clinton was celebrating like they had won.

The three games that followed this proved to be equally if not more exciting and with better results, starting with Indian River at Clinton's home field. Earlier this season Indian River defeated CCS by ten goals so it wouldn't be an easy game. The first quarter score of 6-2 was not very promising. By the end of the first half, however, Clinton had tied up the score to 9-9. Both teams added even goals in the third making it 12-12. With a smattering of goals from each team Clinton managed to pull ahead and win 14-15.

CCS's next game against Notre Dame was by far the least exciting game of the week. After Clinton took a quick 7-0 lead the team used the rest of the game to work in their second string players and goal tender, this allowed Notre Dame to make up some of the distance to a final 13-9 game, Clinton. Hamilton made the journey to CCS's home stadium on Saturday the 10th for what would come to be one of the most exhilarating games of the season. Clinton took a quick 3-1 lead early in the first quarter thinking they could easily put this game away as a win. Although by the end of the first Hamilton had made it a 3-3 game. At the end of the half Clinton had expanded their score only by one while Hamilton added three to theirs leaving it a 5-7 game, and after the third quarter the difference still remained at two.

Then with a thrilling fourth quarter Clinton not only narrowed the gap but won the game by two, 9-7.
